Women & Equalities

Angela Crawley is a passionate campaigner for equality and from 2015 to 2020 was the SNP’s spokesperson for Equalities, Women and Children at Westminster.

Women have had a poor deal for centuries – be it at work, at home and or in Parliament. Since her election, Angela has been clear that redressing the gender balance in public life must be a priority for any government and political parties.

Because if we are to aspire to gender equality in the UK, then we must have equal representation in Parliament – it is more than a century since women won the right to vote and we still have so much to achieve to ensure gender balance.

Scotland has been ranked 14th in the world on women’s empowerment while the UK is 23rd which just goes to show that Scotland has taken the lead on this issue.  Nicola Sturgeon is Scotland’s first female First Minister and her Cabinet is one of only a handful in the world that is gender balanced.

But there is more that can be done and Angela will continue to work towards a country where every girl and woman can reach her full potential and will continue to use every platform available to her in Westminster and at home to work towards this ambitious goal.
